After a couple of days in Kathmandu, we flew down to Nepalgunj, the gateway for Bardia National Park. Having experienced sub-zero temperatures in Tibet, we have now been exposed to the searing 40 degree heat of Bardia. But this was the reason for coming during the hot season: the chance to spot an elusive tiger who need to come to the waterholes at this time of year.

We bounced around in a jeep for two and a half days, and spent several hours sitting by waterholes, and our patience paid off when a tiger approached the waterhole not far from our viewpoint (thanks to our guide knowing where a possible sighting might occur) and disappeared all too quickly back into the forest.
This is the second time we've been to Bardia, the first time being in November 2022, when we saw different wildlife: this time we saw many more elephants and some rhino which we never saw last time. Also a greater variety of birdlife in all shapes and colours.

It's now time to head back to Kathmandu for our last couple of days before heading back to the UK on Monday.
